PRESENTATION OF THE 6 FEBRUARY 2023 EARTHQUAKES ON NATIONAL TELEVISION MAIN NEWS BULLETINS: A CONTENT ANALYSIS STUDY

Although the new media seems to have left traditional media, television continues to influence masses. Television shapes the thoughts of individuals and guides them. Within context, one of the most important functions of television is to give information and news. The news making up news bulletins differ according to expectations of target audience. Despite these variables, an event must have one or more newsworthiness to be reported. One of them is negativity. Negativity gives news potential to events. In this context, the presentation in main news bulletins of the earthquakes occurred on February 6, 2023, constitutes the framework of this study. In the study, the presentation of the earthquakes occurred on February 6 in main news bulletins of television channels was evaluated by content analysis method. Show Tv, Star Tv, and Kanal D were selected with purposeful sampling and the main news bulletins of these channels were examined. In the research, the order and content of the news regarding the main news bulletins of the television channels, the words frequently used in the news language, the images used in the news, the news actors, the subtitles of the news, the use of music and the categories regarding the elements of exaggeration were created and the important findings in terms of quality and quantity were presented. As a result of the study, it was seen that some words (miracle, hope, pain, anxiety, happiness, doomsday, disaster, etc.) were highlighted in the transmission of earthquake news. In the presentation of earthquake news, the use of music and sometimes exaggeration elements were encountered. It can be stated that the earthquake news is presented in a dramatization with findings obtained.
