Abstract

Consumption, made to meet the needs, takes various forms as a concept. Consumption for With the liberal economic approaches gaining weight and the spread of commercialization and monopolization in all areas, the elite class, which holds the dominant power, also wanted to address mental strength. In this respect, the mainstream mass media has played an important role. Understanding of journalism for a citizen, as the fourth force, there are tasks such as supervising, controlling, criticizing the government, informing the reader, influencing social life. However, by producing news for the media, magazines and entertainment, it has been seen that it has driven people away from power, newspapers, and the position of citizens, and this problem has manifested itself with the decline of the citizen's political participation in public life. Citizen journalism began to come up frequently in the United States in the 1990s in response to the shortcomings of the mainstream media's reporting format. Based on this information, in the study, firstly, a literature review was conducted on the topic of citizen journalism, the concept was explained and its history was mentioned. In addition, the philosophical foundations and important qualities of this concept are given. In the research part, independent/alternative media in Kyrgyzstan is known as Azattyk.org and the alternative media in Turkey are considered Bianet.org the sites were selected as a sample. Using content analysis as a method, it was tried to determine the understanding of citizen journalism of the media of the two countries, whether the news published on the site respond to the principles of citizen journalism. Looking at the results of the analysis, it was found that both sites produce news close to the understanding of citizen journalism, but they have some points that need to be improved.
